Sonia Lopez, a beloved mother, sister, aunt, and cherished friend, passed away peacefully surrounded by family in her hometown of Edinburg, Texas, on May 31, 2025, at the age of 55. Known for her loving nature and kind heart, Sonia left a legacy of warmth and compassion that will forever be remembered by all who had the privilege of knowing her.
Born on January 4, 1970, in Edinburg, Texas, Sonia was a lifelong resident. Her family was at the center of her world, and she imparted her values of love and kindness to all those around her. She is survived by her adored son, Alejandro J. Limon, who was the apple of her eye, her dedicated siblings, Nick (and his wife, Laura) Lopez, Noelia Lopez, Lionel Lopez, and Abel Lopez, and sister-in-law, Julie P. Lopez.
Sonia cherished her role as aunt to her nieces and nephews, Breauna, Nicolas, Emily Lopez, Danielle Ramirez, Jerod Cheatham, Isabella, Brody, Arabella, Robyn, and Beanca Lopez, and to her great niece and nephew- Orion Lee S. Lopez and Athena Rose S. Lopez. She embraced the affectionate title of "Momma Sonia," a name lovingly coined by her nieces and nephews who saw her as a second mother due to the care and attention she showered upon them. Her presence will be deeply missed, but her nurturing influence remains.
Preceded in death by her treasured parents, Noe and Guadalupe Lopez; her two older brothers Andy Lopez and Noe Lopez Jr, a nephew Noah Lopez, Sonia will be fondly remembered for her dedication to keeping family ties strong in loving remembrance of her parents. She often filled the void left by their absence with her boundless love and care, ensuring that their shared values continued to flourish in the hearts of the younger generation.
Among her many interests, Sonia found solace and joy in gardening, her hands nurturing life in the soil as she did in her relationships. Her love of reading provided her with a wealth of knowledge and adventure, which she was always eager to share with family and friends. Crafting, and country music were among her passions, and she brought her creative spark to every family gathering, making each occasion memorable with her thoughtful touches. Known for her cooking and baking skills, holiday feasts and family gatherings were made all the more memorable by her delicious creations, undeniably infusing every celebration with her spirit of generosity and love.
The world was undoubtedly a better place for having Sonia in it, and her legacy of love and warmth will continue to inspire and comfort us all. Her memory will be cherished and carried forward, a hidden solace for when we need it most. Sonia may have departed from this world, but the traces of her life's work will remain as steadfast as ever.
Visitation will be Thursday, June 5, 2025 at Rivera Hillcrest Funerals and Cremations, 1300 N. I-69C in Edinburg from 4:00 pm to 9:00 pm with a Rosary at 6:00 pm. Services are under the direction of Rivera at Hillcrest Funerals and Cremations of Edinburg.
