Ruth Mejia Garcia, known affectionately to all of us as Ruth, made her grand entrance into this world on May 18, 1990, in the vibrant city of Edinburg, TX, and it was there that she took her final bow on May 7, 2024. Ruth lived her life with the kind of contagious enthusiasm that would have given even the Energizer Bunny a run for its money. She was a beacon of light, a whirlwind of joy, and the kind of person who could find the silver lining in a blackout. Ruth was a proud graduate of Johnny G. Economedes High School, where she was known for both her academic prowess and her ability to rock a denim jacket like nobody's business. She carried her love for the '90s well into the 2020s, proving that good taste is indeed timeless. Her interests were as colorful as her personality; from fashion that could turn any sidewalk into a runway, to painting canvases that were as expressive as her laughter. Ruth could often be found at the beach, where she was the undisputed queen of the perfect suntan, or cheering on her son, Mark, at his sports games with a vigor that could shame any professional cheerleader. And let's not forget her legendary snacking skills—a talent she wielded with grace and zero regrets. She was preceded in death by her father, Marco T. Mejia. Ruth is survived by a family that is as vast and loving as her heart: her steadfast mother, Maria del Carmen Mejia; her pride and joy, son Mark M. Garcia; her rock, Victor; her siblings—Jackie and Miguel, Tania and Antonio, Ellery, Cidia, Bladimir and Tanya, Esther, Josue and Mayra; and an entourage of 14 nieces and nephews who adored their Aunt Ruth and her impromptu talent shows. Describing Ruth is simple: she was generous to a fault, so much so that she'd give you the shirt off her back, and then compliment you on how great you looked in it. Her optimism was the kind that could turn a thunderstorm into an excuse for a dance party. And selfless. She lived by the motto that sharing is caring, especially when it came to her last piece of chocolate. In the spirit of Ruth's love for a good laugh, let's recall the wise words of the incomparable Dolly Parton: "The way I see it, if you want the rainbow, you gotta put up with the rain." Ruth didn't just put up with the rain; she'd be out there with a slip 'n slide and a grin, inviting everyone to join the fun. Ruth's life was a masterclass in making the most of every moment, in finding joy in the little things, and in spreading love like it was confetti. Her absence will be felt deeply, but the echoes of her laughter and the memories of her boundless spirit will continue to inspire all who were lucky enough to know her. So let's not say goodbye to Ruth Mejia Garcia; instead, let's say, "See you later," because a soul like hers is surely just around the corner, painting the sky a little brighter for us all.
