Rufus Gordon Floyd Jr., lovingly known as R.G., passed away peacefully on Monday, May 5, 2026, in Bullard, Texas, at the age of 91. He was born on December 13, 1934, in Robert Lee (Coke) County, Texas, to Rufus Gordon Floyd Sr. and Bennie Lorraine Finney.
R.G. spent his childhood in the Rio Grande Valley, where he attended grade school and high school in Edinburg, Texas. At the young age of 17, he enlisted in the United States Navy, beginning a lifetime marked by dedication, leadership, and service to his country and community. He later graduated with honors from UTRGV and furthered his education at the University of Texas at Austin, Louisiana Poly-Tech, LSU-Monroe, and the management program at Harvard University. He was commissioned as a Naval Intelligence Officer and proudly continued his service in the Naval Reserve for an additional eight years.
Throughout his accomplished career, R.G. worked for IBM and Champion International before moving to Llano County in 1984, where he founded his own business, Texas Bag Corp. His passion for public service led him to serve as Llano County Judge from 2002 until 2006, a role in which he faithfully dedicated himself to the citizens of Llano County with integrity, wisdom, and compassion.
R.G. was preceded in death by his parents; his sister, Ruth Duckworth; and his brothers, Dewey Floyd and Frank Floyd.
He is survived by his loving wife, Glenda Ford Floyd; his children, Deborah Henderson (Greg) and Mitchell Floyd; and his stepchildren, Angela Wiggins (John) and Candee Hinds (Daryl). He also leaves behind his cherished grandchildren, Sam Henderson, Ben Henderson, and Charli Byers; great-grandchildren, Brylee and Beau; sisters, Bennie Thompson and Marjorie Guelker (Robert Ballinger); along with numerous nieces, nephews, extended family members, and many dear friends who will forever treasure his memory.
Visitation and services will be held on Tuesday, May 12, 2026, from 8:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. at Rivera at Hillcrest Funerals and Cremations. A graveside service will follow at 11:00 a.m. at Hillcrest Memorial Park.
