Rodolfo "Rudy" De Alejandro, a cherished husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, and friend, passed away peacefully on June 13, 2025, in Edinburg, Texas, just one day shy of his 88th birthday. Born on June 14, 1937, in Montemorelos, Nuevo León, Mexico. Rudy was a life long resident of Edinburg
Rudy was preceded in death by his parents, Francisco and Marina De Alejandro; his brother, Hector De Alejandro; and his son-in-law, Tony Cantu. His legacy continues through his beloved wife Minerva Casas of 67 years, whose love and companionship were the cornerstones of his life. He was a devoted father to his daughters, Cindy (+Tony) and Chris Weller (Frank), and a doting grandfather to Alexandra Schmittle (Eric), Sarah Guzman (Joey), and Lorena Cantu (Devon Garza). His great-grandson, Sloan Schmittle, will grow up hearing tales of his great-grandfather's zest for life. Rudy is also survived by his siblings, Minerva Garza(+Daniel), Myrna D. Gonzalez (Adan), Dora Beard (Jerry), Omar De Alejandro (Diana), Jorge De Alejandro (Barbara), Javier De Alejandro, and Noe De Alejandro, as well as numerous nieces and nephews who will fondly remember his wisdom and warmth.
Rudy proudly served his country as a veteran of the U.S. Army and the National Guard. His dedication to service was a testament to his character and his love for his nation.
An avid outdoorsman, Rudy found joy in the simple pleasures of life. He was an expert in BBQ, hunting, and fishing, and he possessed an impressive breadth of knowledge on a wide array of subjects. His family and friends often sought his advice, knowing that he would offer guidance with both wisdom and a touch of humor.
Those who knew Rudy will remember him as adventurous and spirited, a man who embraced life's challenges with courage and a smile. His generosity knew no bounds, and he was always ready to lend a helping hand or share his last piece of bread.
Rodolfo "Rudy" De Alejandro lived a full life, marked by love, service, and the pursuit of happiness. As we bid farewell to this remarkable man, we take comfort in knowing that his spirit will continue to inspire us to live life to the fullest, just as he did. Rest in peace, Rudy; your memory will forever be etched in the hearts of those who loved you.
Gathering of family and friends will take place Monday, June 16, 2025 from 4:00 pm to 8:00 pm with a prayer service at 6:00 pm at Rivera at Hillcrest Funerals and Cremations,1300 N I-69C in Edinburg.
Inurnment will take place Friday June 20, 2025 at 1:00 PM at the Rio Grande Valley State Veterans Cemetery in Mission with military honors by VFW 8788 of McAllen.
Funeral arrangements and services are being handled by Rudy's Nephews and Funeral Directors Aaron Rivera, Adan Gonzalez Jr. and Marc A Gonzalez.
