Rodolfo Garza, a cherished soul known for his kindness and thoughtful nature, passed away peacefully on March 14, 2025, in his hometown of McAllen, Texas, at the age of 81. Born on December 29, 1943, to Jose and Antonia B Garza, Rodolfo was one of five siblings who grew up in a vibrant household filled with love and camaraderie.
Rodolfo's early education took place at McAllen High School, where he was known for his intelligence and determination. He carried these traits with him to the University of Southern California, graduating in 1976 with a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration. His academic achievements laid the foundation for what would become a distinguished career in computer programming, where he contributed to the success of numerous companies, including Paper Mate, Xerox, Giorgio of Beverly Hills, and Countrywide Home Loans.
Before embarking on his civilian career, Rodolfo proudly served his country by joining the US Naval Hospital School Company 15-63 in San Diego, California. His time in the Navy was a testament to his unwavering commitment and patriotism, values that continued to guide him throughout his life.
In 1967, Rodolfo married his soulmate, Sandy Chavez, of West Los Angeles. Together, they shared 23 years of devoted marriage until Sandy's untimely passing in 1990. Their love was a beacon of strength and partnership, and it lives on through their daughter, Mia Christina Portrie (Garza), who resides in La Mirada, California.
Rodolfo was a beloved brother to RoseLinda Lopez and Robert Garza. His brothers Jose and Raul predeceased him, but the fond memories they shared as a family endure. Rodolfo's legacy is one of familial warmth, as he was a central figure in the lives of his siblings, offering support and wisdom at every turn.
An avid golfer, Rodolfo spent many joyful hours on the greens, participating in numerous tournaments with the Fairway Friends Golf Club of Southern California. His love for the sport was matched only by his passion for USC Football, where he was not only a fan but an active supporter as an alumnus.
Those who knew Rodolfo will remember him as a man of many virtues. His intelligence shone brightly in both his professional and personal pursuits. His kindness was felt by all who had the pleasure of his company, and his thoughtfulness was evident in the way he lived his life—always considering others and striving to make a positive impact.
Rodolfo's departure leaves behind a legacy of love, dedication, and integrity. He will be deeply missed by his family, friends, and all who were fortunate enough to cross paths with him. His memory will be treasured, and the stories of his life will continue to inspire those he leaves behind.
As we bid farewell to Rodolfo Garza, we celebrate a life well-lived—a life filled with purpose, joy, and an abundance of love. May he rest in peace, knowing that his spirit will always be a guiding light for those he loved.
