Reyes Lopez Obituary

Reyes Raul Lopez, known affectionately as Rey by his friends and family, passed away peacefully on January 27, 2025, in Edinburg, Texas, at the age of 89. Born on May 4, 1935, in Santa Elena, Starr County, Texas, Rey was a man whose warmth and humor brought joy to all who knew him.

Rey was a lifelong resident of Santa Elena Texas, where he graduated from San Isidro High School. His love for his hometown was only matched by his passion for the great outdoors. An avid hunter and fisherman, Rey could often be found exploring the natural beauty of Texas. His love for barbecuing and hosting family gatherings was well-known, and his home was frequently filled with laughter, the sizzle of the grill, and the joy of impromptu celebrations. Rey had a knack for making every occasion special, and his infectious humor made him the life of any party.

He was a loving husband to Virginia H. Lopez, with whom he shared 60 years of marriage filled with devotion and companionship. Together, they raised a beautiful family, including their children Veronica Lopez-Estrada, Velisa Lopez Reyes and her husband Leo, and Vicky Lopez Reyes and her husband Ralph. Rey was a cherished grandfather to seven grandchildren: Megan Estrada, Steven Reyes, Miranda Estrada, Jackie Reyes, Sydney Reyes, Sierra Reyes, and Secilia Reyes. His grandchildren will remember him as a beacon of love and joy in their lives.

Rey was preceded in death by his parents, Reyes and Amada Lopez, and his siblings Alicia Saenz, Andrea Morales, Aida Gomez, and Ruben Lopez. He is survived by his twin brother, Reyes Romeo Lopez, and his sister, Zulema Medrano. Rey's family was the cornerstone of his life, and he leaves behind a legacy of love and cherished memories.

His loyal dog, Coco, was a constant companion and brought him immense comfort and happiness. Coco never left Rey's side, and their bond was a testament to Rey's loving nature.

Those who knew Rey will remember him as a man who was loving, friendly, and funny. His ability to light up a room with his presence and his quick wit will be deeply missed by all. Rey's life was a tapestry of joyful moments, shared stories, and the warmth of companionship.

Rey's passing leaves a void in the hearts of those who loved him, but his spirit will continue to live on through the countless memories he created with his family and friends. As we say goodbye to Reyes Raul Lopez, we celebrate a life well-lived, full of love, laughter, and the beauty of the natural world he so adored.
