Rene Hinojosa, a loving and spirited soul known for his sense of humor and dedication to his family and community, passed away on December 7, 2024, in Donna, Texas, at the age of 62. Born on March 27, 1962, in Rosebud, Texas, Rene's journey through life was marked by his passion for education, sports, and the joy of coaching.
Rene was a proud graduate of Donna High School, class of 1980, where he first discovered his love for sports and education. His academic journey continued as he earned a Bachelor's degree in Exercise Science with a minor in Spanish from Texas State University in 2005, followed by a Master's in Administration from The University of Texas at Arlington in 2012. These accomplishments were not merely for his personal growth but served as a foundation for his commitment to nurturing young minds.
As a dedicated educator and coach, Rene's work history was a testament to his devotion to youth and athletics. He started shaping the lives of young athletes as a Donna Little League Baseball Coach and a Boys & Girls Club Basketball Coach. His career in education and coaching included impactful tenures at Connally High School, Columbus High School, and Caney Creek High School in Conroe ISD, where he was beloved as a Spanish Teacher and Football Coach.
Rene's interests extended beyond the classroom and the field. He found great joy in playing sports, particularly football and basketball. He spent countless hours coaching his brothers and son, sharing with them not only the skills of the games but also the values of teamwork and perseverance. His love for riding motorcycles and spending quality time with his grandchildren and family filled his life with adventure and happiness.
His family remembers him as a man who lived his life with love and laughter, always ready to share a funny story or a word of encouragement. Rene is survived by his devoted wife, Loren Hinojosa, and his cherished children, Amy Hinojosa Rico, Rene Hinojosa Jr., and Ashley Ross. He was a stepfather to Gerson, Marvin, Ingrid, Mainor, Daewin, and Loendy Zuniga, and a doting grandfather to Alexis N Garcia, Jakobe I Martinez, Vincent K Rico (Vinsanity), and many others who brought immense joy to his life.
Rene also leaves behind a legacy through his siblings, Lolly Carrizales, Maggie Hinojosa, Lupita Martin (Nelson), Leticia Recio (Lupito), Agapito Hinojosa (Odelia), Jaime Hinojosa, Debbie Davies (Douglas), Luis Hinojosa (Diana), Juan Carlos Hinojosa (Dayana), and Georgina Hinojosa (Ethan), who will miss his guidance and boundless energy.
He was predeceased by his father, Agapito Hinojosa Sr., his infant brother Agapito Hinojosa Jr., and his brother-in-law Pedro Carrizales. The absence of his presence will be profoundly felt by all who knew him.

As we say goodbye to a man who was the epitome of loving, spirited, and funny, we celebrate the time we were privileged to share with him. Rene's legacy will continue to inspire and shape the lives of many, just as he always intended.
