Paula Maldonado, a cherished matriarch to her family, passed away suddenly and peacefully at Edinburg Regional Hospital on August 27, 2024, at the age of 93.
To know Paula was to have received a plate of her famous mole when you sat at her table y una bendicion along with a smart remark as you walked out the door. Her veil of protection continues over each person who was lucky enough to have loved, and been loved by her. Those who were able to sit and visit with her knew the depths of her wisdom through her dichos and stories from her formidable past about growing up as a migrant worker or driving cotton gin trucks, just to name a few. As we grieve, we ask that you also share your memories of her and find solace in the knowledge that her spirit will continue to inspire and guide us.
Paula is survived by her sister, Lupe Murillo;, children, Arturo Maldonado Jr., Ricardo (Pamela) Maldonado, Norma (J. Humberto) Rodriguez, Cynthia (Jack) Arnold, Jaime (Jennifer) Maldonado, Shane Cameron (son- in-law);, 16 grandchildren, and 10 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Arturo Maldonado Sr.;, mother, Antonia Alonzo;, brothers, Pedro Alonzo and Maximono Alonzo;, and daughter, Sylvia Cameron. Paula always dreamed of a bigger life for her family and, much like the garden she loved tending to, her family continues to water the seeds she planted to honor that dream.
Visitation will be from 4 p.m. to 9 p.m. with a 7 p.m. rosary on Thursday, August 29, 2024, at Rivera at Hillcrest Funerals and Cremations 1300 N. I-69C Edinburg, Texas. Funeral mass will be at 10 a.m. on Friday, August 30, 2024, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Edinburg, Texas. Interment will follow at Hillcrest Memorial Park in Edinburg.
May we honor Paula's memory by embracing the wisdom she imparted, the courage she exemplified, and the humor that made each day with her an unforgettable gift. Her spirit will forever be a guiding light, encouraging us to face life's journey with the same tenacity and discernment she embodied.
