Norma Linda Castillo, a beacon of selflessness and love, passed away on May 12, 2025, at the age of 62. Born on May 23, 1962, in Deridder, Louisiana, Norma's life was a testament to her unwavering faith and the deep, abiding love she held for her family, community and the students she taught. Norma's journey began as a cherished daughter to her parents, Leonardo Camarillo Sr. and Diana Camarillo. Although she was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Michael Anthony Castillo Sr., and her father, her legacy continues through her devoted mother, Diana, her caring siblings, Sylvia Camarillo Gomez, Delia C. Gaona and Leonardo (Tracey) Camarillo Jr., and her adoring children, Mark (Iannelli) Castillo, Michael Anthony (Dezarae) Castillo Jr., Jaclyn (Bubba Solis), and Matthew Castillo. Norma's spirit will forever be reflected in the joyous laughter of her grandchildren, Isla Skye, Myka Dove, and Michael Anthony III, and her memory will be cherished by the Daniel, Diaz, Villarreal, and Barreiro families. A Pan American alumna with a Bachelor of Science in Education and a minor in Special Education, Norma dedicated her professional life to nurturing young minds as a third-grade teacher within the ECISD. Her passion for education and her students' success was evident to all who walked through her classroom doors. She not only taught her students the core curriculum but also life lessons of compassion, resilience, and the importance of being kind-hearted individuals. Norma's love for life extended far beyond the walls of her classroom. She found solace and joy in the simplicity of being outdoors, whether it was riding atop a tractor or tending to her garden. Her hands, so often folded in prayer, were equally adept at creating culinary delights that would bring together family and friends in moments of celebration and comfort. Her chicken salad and sweet tea were a staple at every gathering. To say that Norma was a loving mother and grandmother would be an understatement. She embodied these roles with every fiber of her being, pouring her heart into creating a home filled with warmth, laughter, and an unwavering sense of security. Her children and grandchildren were her proudest achievements, and she instilled in them the values of faith, family, and the importance of giving back to others. Norma's life was a living example of what it means to be faith-filled. Her trust in the Lord not only defined her but also inspired all who knew her. She approached every day with a spirit of gratitude and an open heart, ready to offer support, encouragement, and a listening ear to anyone in need, true to her character, she faced the diagnosis of leukemia with quiet courage and incredible strength. Even as she underwent intense treatment, she remained resilient and hopeful, her faith in God's word never wavering. As we celebrate Norma Linda Castillo's life, we are reminded of the power of a single individual to make a profound impact on the world. Her legacy is not only in the lives she directly touched but also in the ripple effect of her kindness and love. Norma's story encourages us all to live with purpose, to treasure every moment with loved ones, and to approach each day with the same selflessness and love that she so effortlessly displayed. Norma's life was a beautiful tapestry woven with threads of devotion, care, and an unwavering commitment to others. As we bid farewell to this extraordinary woman, let us carry forward the light of her spirit, the depth of her compassion, and the joy of her love in our own lives. Norma Linda Castillo's memory will forever be a source of motivation and inspiration, urging us to live with the same grace and generosity that she embodied every day.
