Melva G. Vela

Melva G. Vela passed away peacefully on June 26, 2026, in her home in
Edinburg, Texas, at the age of 71.

Born on June 22, 1955, in Edinburg, Melva spent her life rooted in the
community she called home. Melva was a loving, generous, and selfless
woman whose presence brought comfort and warmth to those around her.
She had a special way of making others feel seen, cared for, and
welcomed. Her life was defined by the kindness she gave so freely and by
the steady love she offered her family each day.

She is survived by her beloved husband, Laurencio Vela. Together, they
shared a life built on love, commitment, and family. She leaves behind her
children, Maritza Yvette (Gabriela) Vela, Florestela (Mardi) Ros, Laurencio
“Jay” (America) Vela, Jr., and Jaime Vela.
Melva also cherished her grandchildren, Autumn Astra Handy, Troy Nicolai
Handy, Adrian Jay Vela, Eva Karina Vela, Kai Li Macias-Ros, Lionel
Mendoza, and Jason Jaime Vela.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Jose Guadalupe Gonzalez and
Guadalupe Gonzalez, her siblings Eloy Gonzalez, Hector Gonzalez, and
her twin sister Thelma Gonzalez. She is survived by her brothers Gustavo
Gonzalez, Criserio Gonzalez, and Orlando Gonzalez.

Though her earthly journey has ended, the love Melva shared will continue
to live on in the hearts of her family and friends. Her life was a beautiful
example of what it means to love deeply and to live with generosity of spirit.
She will be deeply missed and forever remembered with love, gratitude,
and respect.

Visitation will be Monday, June 29,2026 from 3:00 pm to 8:00 pm with a rosary at 6:30 pm

at Rivera Hillcrest Funerals and Cremations in Edinburg. Funeral Mass will be Tuesday, June 30,2026

at 10:00 am at Sacred Heart Church in Edinburg. Interment will follow to Hillcrest Memorial Cemetery.
