Maria Elena Casas

Maria Elena Casas, a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother, a beacon of love and joy, passed away peacefully on May 14, 2025, at the age of 86. Born on October 15, 1938, to Pedro and Elena Sanchez, Maria grew up in a lively household with her five siblings. She was a proud graduate of McHi class 1957 and attended Pan American University. She was a member of Pan American Round Table and the Catholic Daughters of the Americas.

Maria's professional life was marked by her entrepreneurial spirit and dedication to her community. She worked with the Edinburg School District, touching the lives of many students and staff. She was an owner of Porfirio Casas Insurance Agency, a testament to her business acumen and commitment to providing for her family. Her career also included time as a real estate agent with BIC Realty, where she helped countless families find their homes. 

Preceded in death by her beloved husband, Porfirio Casas, and her parents, Pedro and Elena Sanchez, Maria's legacy continues through her siblings, children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and other loving family members. She leaves behind her cherished brother, Rolando Sanchez, and her adoring children, Gerardo, Gustavo (Sandra), Lorella (Aaron), and Ruby (Christian). Her grandchildren, Andrew, Lizette, Austin, Andrea, Brittany, Ryan, Deidra, Preston, and Lauren, along with her three great-grandchildren, will forever hold her memory in their hearts.

Maria's zest for life was evident in her many interests and hobbies. She was an avid dancer, enjoyed listening to music, and found solace in her garden. Her home was a reflection of her love for decorating, especially during the holidays. A voracious consumer of news and television shows, she also cherished shopping and traveling. Above all, Maria was devoted to her family, caring for those in need, and spending precious time with her loved ones. Her affection for animals was unmistakable, with her puppy Mackie, birds, and rabbits bringing her immense joy.

Family and friends will gather for a Funeral Mass Saturday May 17, 2025 at 1:00p.m.at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Edinburg. Services will conclude after the mass. Funeral Arrangements are being handled by Rivera at Hillcrest Funerals and Cremations of Edinburg.
