Maria Estella Alonzo, a beacon of courage and thoughtfulness, passed away peacefully on February 13, 2025, in McAllen, at the age of 70. Born on March 26, 1954, in Mexico, she brought a lifetime of joy and faith-filled inspiration to everyone she touched.
Maria's journey began as the beloved daughter of her parents, growing up alongside her six brothers, with whom she shared an unbreakable bond. Her formative years in Mexico were filled with the vibrant culture and warmth of her family, which she carried with her throughout her life. Her familial bonds only grew stronger with time, as she became the cherished matriarch, leaving behind a legacy of love and unity.
Her spirit of adventure and love led her to Oscar Martin Deaquino, her devoted common-law husband, with whom she shared a life rich in laughter, mutual respect, and unwavering support. Together, they nurtured a family that included her loving daughter Melissa Jasso, her caring son-in-law Ronald Jasso, her passionate son Romeo Pena Jr., her kind daughter-in-law Jessica Pena, and her spirited daughter Bianca Deaquino.
Maria was a grandmother extraordinaire to Justin, Brittany, the late Megan Jasso, Tristan, Aaran, Sara, and Emily Pena. Each grandchild was a precious gem in the treasure of her heart, and she instilled in them the values of courage, compassion, and faith. Her legacy will continue to blossom in the lives of her six great-grandchildren, who will grow up hearing tales of their remarkable grandmother.
Maria's life was a testament to her strength and her capacity to love. She faced the loss of her granddaughter, Megan, and two of her brothers with a resilience that inspired her family to find peace and acceptance. Her love extended even to her canine companions, Madden and Baily Deaquino, who were her faithful friends and brought her immeasurable joy.
Her interests were simple yet profound. Maria found relaxation in watching Netflix, where she could explore stories of all genres, and she expressed her creativity through the art of coloring, creating beautiful pieces that were a reflection of her inner beauty and calm. These pastimes provided her with moments of solace and pleasure, which she often shared with her family.
Maria's courage shone brightly, whether she was navigating life's challenges or standing as the rock for her family. She was a thoughtful soul, always considering the needs and feelings of others before her own. Her faith was unwavering, a guiding light that led her through every twist and turn of her journey.
She leaves behind a family that is a testament to her love: Melissa, Ronald, Romeo, Jessica, Bianca, Oscar, her grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and her four surviving brothers. Maria's spirit will continue to guide and inspire them, as they carry forward the values she embodied so gracefully.
Maria Estella Alonzo's life was a tapestry woven with threads of love, strength, and faith. As her family and friends say their farewells, they celebrate the extraordinary woman she was and the indelible mark she has left on their hearts. Maria's story does not end here, for she lives on in the cherished memories and the enduring love she bestowed upon all who were fortunate enough to know her.
