Juanita " Janie" Rodriguez Flores

Edinburg, Texas – Juanita “Janie” Rodriguez Flores passed away on October 30, 2025, in Edinburg, Texas, at the age of 78. She was born on January 14, 1947, in San Benito, Texas, to the late Jose P. Rodriguez and Francisca Rodriguez, and grew up in Rio Hondo, Texas, where she graduated from Rio Hondo High School in 1967.

She was preceded in death by her brother Jose G. Rodriguez and her daughter Rhonda Flores. She is survived by her husband Anthony B. Flores, her brother Roy M. Rodriguez, and her children: Jose Gavito Rodriguez; Norma Catalina Olivarez (Rene) and their children Sarah, Nathan, and Katalina; Michelle Flores and her children Isabel, Olivia, Ezra, Celeste, and Ira; Geminis Yvette Peña (Victor) and their children Emmanuel, Adrian, and Emilia; and Anthony Flores, Jr. (Ana) and their children Samuel, Andrew, and Justice.

Janie raised her family in Rio Hondo, where she and her husband worked hard to provide for their six children. She once dreamed of becoming a nurse, but family responsibilities changed her plans.  She later found fulfillment working with special needs children for the Rio Hondo Independent School District. In the late 1990s, she moved to Key West, Florida, before returning to Texas and settling in Edinburg in the early 2000s.

Throughout her life, Janie found strength and purpose in her faith. While attending Faith Pleases God Church in Harlingen, her faith was strengthened, and she enjoyed singing in the choir and taking part in church events and activities. She loved homemaking, cooking, family get-togethers, and caring for her cats, Tootsie, Max, and Michelle.

Janie will be remembered by her family for her perseverance, her faith, and her dedication to those she loved.

The Flores family will receive friends and family on Wednesday, November 5, 2025 from 4:00 pm to 9:00 pm at Rivera Hillcrest Funerals and Cremations Chapel, 1300 N. I-69C in Edinburg. Prayer service will be at 7:00 PM. Funeral services will be Thursday, November 6, 2025 at 9:30 AM at the Living Word Evangelical Church, 5208 N. Jackson Rd in Pharr. Interment will follow to Valley Memorial Gardens Cemetery in Mission.
