We gather to celebrate the life and honor the memory of Juan Manuel Carranza, affectionately known as Meme, a cherished husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend. Born on September 27, 1956, in Lima, Ohio, Juan Manuel Carranza was a man who brought laughter and wisdom into the lives of those around him. He passed away peacefully in Edinburg, Texas, on March 3, 2024, surrounded by his loving family.
Meme was a devoted husband to Maria Vega-Carranza, with whom he shared over 36 years of marriage, filled with love, companionship, and mutual respect. He was a proud father to his daughter, Cindy Marie Barrientes, and a father figure to his son-in-law, Christopher Barrientes. Juan's legacy includes his grandchildren, Carolyne Marie and Christopher Maximus Barrientes, who will forever cherish the memories and life lessons he imparted.
His brothers, Jose Guadalupe, Jose Luis, Miguel, and Froylan Carranza Jr., along with his sisters, Maria Juanita Hernandez, Celia Carranza, Maricela Moreno, and Maria Consuelo Vela, will remember Juan as a beacon of strength and humor in their family. He was preceded in death by his parents, Froylan and Inez Carranza, and his brother Martin Carranza.
A proud graduate of Edinburg High School's class of '77, Juan Manuel Carranza dedicated 35 years of service to Hidalgo County Pct. #4. Starting in maintenance, he worked diligently to become Chief Administrator. Throughout his career, he was known for his knowledge and the respect he garnered from colleagues and community members alike. After retiring four years ago, he left behind a legacy of commitment and excellence that continues to inspire.
Juan's interests were as vibrant and dynamic as his personality. He was an avid movie enthusiast, with a particular fondness for Westerns and action-adventure films. His favorites included classics like "Die Hard" and "Rambo," as well as the thrill of "Armageddon," the heroics of "The Avengers," and the spectacle of WWE.
Those who knew Juan Manuel Carranza would describe him as funny, wise, and handy. He had a knack for fixing things, a quick wit that could lighten any mood, and a depth of knowledge that made him a go-to source for advice. Meme's presence was a gift to all who had the pleasure of knowing him, and his absence will be deeply felt.
As we say farewell to Juan Manuel Carranza, we celebrate a life lived with joy, a heart given to service, and a spirit that will continue to inspire laughter and love in the hearts of those he touched. His journey on earth may have concluded, but his story—etched in the memories and lives of his family and friends—will continue to be told for generations to come.
Rest in peace, Juan Manuel 'Meme' Carranza. Your legacy lives on in the smiles you created, the lives you enriched, and the love you shared. Thank you for being a remarkable man who left an indelible mark on this world. Heaven has gained an angel tonight.
