Herminia Calles Obituary

Herminia M. Calles, affectionately known to many as Minnie, Mine, or Hna. Calles completed her earthly journey and entered the Lord's embrace on May 1, 2025, at the age of 104 (1-05-25). Born on March 10, 1921, in the small town of Edroy, Texas, Minnie was a beacon of light and love to all who knew her. She departed this world in the comfort of her daughter and husband's home in San Antonio, Texas, having lived a life full of the grace of God, of natural causes. Those who have known Minnie can attest to her generous spirit, her unwavering optimism, and her passionate devotion to her faith and family. She was preceded in death by her beloved parents, Rev Juan and Enriqueta Mosqueda, her cherished husband Ricardo M. Calles, her dear daughter Rose Marie Lopez, and her son Ricardo Calles Jr. Minnie's legacy of love continues through her son Robert Calles, her daughter Rachel C Marez & husband Richard, her daughter-in-law Sylvia A Calles, and her adored grandchildren (Jr, Julie Marie(Gabriel Perez) Calles her daughter Cassandra (Derrick) Perez her son Adrian Garza (Candice Clayton) kids Mia Clayton & Camila Garza, son Jacob (Desrae) Peralez kids Madison, Andrew, Emryn Peralez, Roxanne (Ruben) Martinez, Reena (Jaime) Rodriguez, Rebecca (Carlos) Morin, & Robert Ernest(Vanessa Gonzalez)Calles kids Desiree N (Raul Banda) Calles kids Isaac Vida, Robert A, James T. Calles.  And her beloved great-grandchildren: Daniel, Kassie, Luis, Aaron, Hayley, Xzavier & Xade. Though Minnie's education was cut short when she lost her sight just before completing high school, her intelligence and skill were evident to all. She had a knack for reverse psychology that brought smiles to many faces. In her final months, as she became bedridden, Minnie completed her "doctorate in serving the Lord." She continued to offer spiritual guidance and prayers for all who visited, sharing the wisdom she garnered in her lifelong education in faith. Minnie's work history was as diverse as it was impactful. She proudly & briefly served as a member of the Women's Army Corps (WAC) and later dedicated 40 years as a secretary and bookkeeper at Richards Automatic Transmissions. Her service extended to her church, where she held roles as a Deacon, secretary, treasurer, and president of the ladies' group, touching countless lives through her unwavering commitment. Her hobbies were as rich and varied as her work. Minnie's joy in life shone through in her love for gardening, housekeeping, cooking, baking, sewing, and visiting with friends and family. Even when her mobility was limited, she found delight in washing dishes, both at home and at church, embodying the scripture, "Whatever your hand finds to do, do it with all your might" (Ecclesiastes 9:10). Her hands were never idle, and her heart was always full. Minnie's interests were a reflection of her vibrant spirit. She relished reading the Bible, the newspaper, and the funnies—often joking with her husband about perusing the classifieds. She loved her honey forever! Her love of driving fast became legendary, especially when she took her son's '67 Chevelle for a spin. She was the family's honorary uber, always ready to help. Her compassion extended beyond her family as she visited the sick and prayed for them, sharing the warmth of her heart through her delicious cooking and baking. In her later years, Minnie enjoyed crafting at home, her hands always busy creating beauty and joy. But above all, her love for the Lord and her church remained the cornerstone of her existence. She lived her faith every day, touching lives and spreading the gospel through her actions and words. As we gather to remember and celebrate Minnie's extraordinary life, let us hold tight to the words of the Apostle Paul, which she exemplified so beautifully: "I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith" (2 Timothy 4:7).  She also untiringly cared for her father his last seven years of his life! Herminia M. Calles did indeed fight the good fight, and now she rests in the eternal peace and joy of her Creator, our Heavenly Father. So today, we bid farewell to Minnie, a woman whose life was a testament to love, service, and faith. She has left an indelible mark on our hearts, and her memory will continue to inspire us to live with generosity, optimism, and passion. May we honor her legacy by carrying forward the love of Christ she so fervently believed in and shared with us all.
