Gustavo Edgar Carrizales, Jr. a man of profound thoughtfulness, intelligence ,and selflessness passed away on April 19, 2025 at his sister’s home at the age of 60. Gus was born in Edinburg, Texas on August 30, 1964. He was a cherished son, husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, nephew and friend. He grew up in San Manuel, Texas alongside his three surviving siblings Gabriel E. Carrizales, Marivel Carrizales-Jackson and Gerardo E Carrizales. He was filled with the love and guidance of his parents Lucia Villarreal Carrizales and the late Gustavo Edgar Carrizales forming unbreakable bonds that would last a lifetime. He married the love of his life, Esther A Trejo Carrizales and together they welcomed their only son Gustavo E Carrizales III. While in hospice care, Gus was fighting and keeping his faith awaiting the arrival of his new grandson. Gustavo Edgar Carrizales III and his companion Diane were able to bring their new born son, Gustavo E Carrizales IV to him prior to his passing.
Gus graduated from Edinburg High School in 1982. From a young age, Gus was known for his strong work ethic, becoming a skilled Heavy Equipment Operator at caliche pits and road construction. His passion for his work was evident to all who knew him and his contributions to the field were significant and lasting. Gus was an avid cattle rancher throughout his life. He often referred to himself and his siblings as “Feral kids” surviving the ranch life. At a very young age they learned to herd cattle, pick watermelon and work in the family orchards and much more. Gus’ interests and hobbies were as rich and varied as his character. Gus’ love for the outdoors was evident in his enjoyment of fishing where he found peace and solace. He also loved joining Cook-off competitions with his family. He was known for making delicious carne guisada at family gatherings.
His love for his pets was profound and his dog Scooby and his cats were a constant source of joy and companionship. Gus was a man of many talents. He was mechanically inclined and he enjoyed working on his 4 x 4 truck, his lawnmowers and with his welder.
Gus’ legacy is carried on by his loving family: his wife Esther, his son Gustavo with Diane and grandson Gustavo E Carrizales IV., his mom Lucy; his siblings Steven, Mari and Jerry; his nephews Gabriel, Justin, Salvador Carrizales and Ricardo Amado Trejo and nieces Judy, Stephanie, Marzette Carrizales and Monica Trejo. Gus’ life was a testament to the values he held dear: his thoughtfulness and selflessness towards family and his intelligence to solve life’s obstacles. He will be remembered for his ability to bring warmth and light into the lives of those around him. As we bid farewell to Gustavo Edgar Carrizales Jr., we celebrate a life lived with purpose and love. His memory will continue to inspire and guide us, and his spirit will forever be a beacon of strength and kindness in the hearts of all who were fortunate enough to know him.
Sentiments of the song Simple Man by Lynyrd Skynyrd were words he hoped his dear son would live by. “Son be a simple kind of man. Oh, be something you love and understand Baby, be a simple kind of man Oh won’t you do this for me son, if you can?”
