Gray Alan Porcella Obituary

Gray Alan Porcella, a man of remarkable resilience and fervent passion for life's many harmonies, passed away peacefully on September 21, 2024, in Edinburg, TX, at the age of 67. Born on May 16, 1957, in Pacoima, CA, he was a beacon of kindness, intelligence, and an interesting character who never allowed his challenges to define him.

His early life in California set a melodious foundation for his future. A gifted saxophonist, Gray earned a music scholarship to California State University, Fullerton, where he pursued his love for classical music.  This same passion  resonated through his later years as he often filled the silence of his home with the melodious tones of the piano.  A young Gray was a champion pool player, a talent that showcased his precision, strategic thinking, and skill.

Professionally, Gray's charisma and keen intellect made him a dynamic salesman. His spirit of entrepreneurship led him to become self-employed, designing websites that connected people and ideas. He approached his work with the same dedication and zeal that he did his personal interests.

Gray's interests painted the picture of a man who savored every moment. Despite being born with muscular dystrophy, he embodied strength and determination. He was an aficionado of magic, which complemented his natural ability to captivate an audience with his humor and wit. His interest in politics and steadfast support for the Democratic Party were testaments to his belief in positive change and social justice.

His connection to the ocean was profound; Gray loved to swim, cherishing the times he lived in Hawaii. It was in these tranquil waters that he married his beloved second wife, Yvonne Y. Porcella, seventeen years ago, in a ceremony as enchanting as the island's sunsets.

Gray's personal legacy will live on by his wife, Yvonne, who stood by him as a partner and confidante through life's ebb and flow. From his previous marriage, he is survived by his son, Jordan (Cheyenne) Porcella and their two children, and Gray’s daughter, Jamie Porcella all of whom he loved very much. Gray's siblings – Paul Porcella, Blythe (Thom) Allison-Mayne, Nancy Porcella and Kent Schmidt, Mark (Lisa) Porcella, Anita Porcella, Julie Porcella and Jennifer Cordery, and Valerie (Patrick) Hollister – remember their brother with fondness and admiration for the life he led.  The Porcella family has many nieces and nephews who all held a special place in Gray’s heart.

He also leaves behind in-laws who embraced him like a son and brother: Ricardo and Sylvia Ybarra, brother-in-law Rocky (Brianna) Ybarra, and niece Madelyn Ybarra, all of whom Gray held in great esteem and affection.  His ability to tell jokes and captivate others with stories was enticing, making every Ybarra gathering a memorable one. His laughter was infectious, and his presence, a source of joy to his extended family of aunts, uncles and cousins.

Gray was preceded in death by his parents, John David and Janet Marie Porcella, who instilled in him the values of love, resilience, and the pursuit of excellence that he carried throughout his remarkable life.

Those who knew Gray will remember a man who lived fully, loved deeply, and laughed heartily. His ability to tell a joke and light up a room was unparalleled, leaving behind memories that will continue to bring smiles to faces for years to come. Gray's life was a symphony of experiences, each note resonating with the fullness of his character.

As we bid farewell to Gray, we celebrate a life that was as enchanting as the magic tricks he so loved to perform. His legacy of kindness, intelligence, and an insatiable curiosity about the world will echo in the hearts of all who were fortunate enough to know him. We are comforted by the memories, the music, and the magic he left behind. In our hearts, he plays on, a never-ending sonata of the man who brought so much light into our lives.  Gray's spirit will forever play on, like a timeless melody that refuses to be forgotten.
