It is with heavy hearts and deep sorrow that we announce the passing of our beloved father on the morning of January 9, 2026, peacefully surrounded by his loved ones in the home he cherished for many years in San Juan. His life leaves behind a lasting legacy of strength, love, dedication, and—above all—joy, which will forever live on in the hearts of those who knew him.
He was a devoted family man who worked tirelessly throughout his life. He spent many years in construction and later as a migrant farm worker, eventually making the Rio Grande Valley his home, where he continued working alongside local farmers. Born in May of 1936 in Mexico to his parents, Eladio Ramos and Casimira Sosa, he later achieved one of his proudest accomplishments by earning his United States citizenship with the help of a local organization.
He shared 56 beautiful years of marriage with his devoted wife, Carmen Silva, who survives him. He was a loving father to Candido (Delia) Ramos, Jose M. Ramos, and Emily (Robert) Ramos De Leon, and was preceded in death by his son, Manuel Ramos.
He was a proud grandfather to Ashley (Gustavo) De Los Santos, Emilio M. Ramos, Amber De Leon, Adalyn De Leon, and others, and a cherished great-grandfather to Eli Cirlos, Alyxandria De Los Santos, and more. His love for his family knew no bounds.
A true lover of the outdoors until his very last day, he could often be found working on a project, enjoying nature, or planning his next adventure. He found his greatest happiness spending time with his grandchildren and hosting weekend cookouts filled with laughter, stories, and togetherness. A man of deep faith, he was devoted to daily prayer and lived his life guided by humility and gratitude. He taught his children the importance of appreciating what you work hard for and always taking care of those you love.
Visitation will be held on Tuesday, January 13, from 2:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., with a Rosary at 6:00 p.m.
Burial will take place Wednesday, January 14, 2026 at 11:00 AM at San Juan City Cemetery.
He will be deeply missed, forever loved, and always remembered.
Funeral arrangements are being handled by Rivera at Hillcrest Funerals and Cremations, 1300 N. I-69 C in Edinburg.
