Eloy Gonzalez, a cherished soul known for his humor, deep faith, and loving nature, departed from this world on September 13, 2024, in his hometown of Edinburg, Texas, leaving behind a legacy of laughter and a family rooted in love. Born on May 30, 1954, to the late Jose Guadalupe and Guadalupe Gonzalez, Eloy's life journey began and ended in the place he held most dear, surrounded by the community and the people who shaped his remarkable life.
Eloy was a proud graduate of the Edinburg High Bobcats class of 1973, where he formed friendships and memories that lasted a lifetime. His dedication to his community was evident through his work at the ECISD Transportation Department and Beverly Hardware Store, where he was not just an employee but a friend to all who crossed his path. Eloy proudly served his country with the United States Army from Feb 1974 to Feb 1977.
Eloy is survived by his children; Laura (Charles) Armstrong-Gonzalez, Miriam Vazquez, Aleida A. Hinojosa, Samantha (Sean) Slayman, Eric (Isabeth) Moreno, Jose V. (Lili) Gonzalez, Eloy Gonzalez Jr., and Gabriel R. Gonzalez. Eloy's life was further enriched by his 15 grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren, who brought him immeasurable joy. Also his siblings Orlando "Rocky" Gonzalez, Criserio Gonzalez, Gustavo Gonzalez, Melva Vela and Eloy's ex wife Graciela Gonzalez.
His family was the cornerstone of his life, and the pride he took in their achievements and happiness was evident to all who knew him.
He is preceded in death by his wife Aleida Gonzalez, His parents and his sister Thelma Gonzalez and brother Hector Gonzalez.
A man of many passions, Eloy was an avid outdoorsman who relished in the thrills of hunting, a pastime that provided not just recreation but a connection to nature and tranquility. His love for sports was undeniable, and his support for the Houston Texans and Dallas Cowboys was unwavering. He found joy in the camaraderie and excitement that came with each game and was always ready to share his enthusiasm with fellow fans.
Eloy's wit and humor were his trademarks, and his famous saying, "Paga Pappa," will echo in the hearts and memories of those who had the pleasure of knowing him. His ability to bring a smile to the faces of those around him was one of the many gifts he shared generously.
Eloy's faith was the guiding light of his life, providing strength and comfort through all of life's trials and triumphs. His unwavering belief and loving heart made him a beacon of hope and a pillar of support for his family and friends.
As we bid farewell to Eloy Gonzalez, we celebrate a life lived with purpose, love, and joy. He will be dearly missed, yet the memories he created will continue to inspire and uplift all who were blessed to be part of his journey. Eloy's spirit will live on through the stories shared, the love he gave, and the laughter he spread, ensuring that his presence will always be felt and cherished.
Visitation will be Wednesday, September 18, 2024 at Rivera Hillcrest Funerals and Cremations in Edinburg from 4:00 pm to 9:00 pm and the recital of the Holy Rosary at 7:00 pm. Funeral mass will be celebrated Thursday, September 19, 2024 at 10:00 AM at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Edinburg. Interment will follow to Hillcrest Memorial Park Cemetery. Military Honors will be conducted by VFW 8788 of McAllen.
