Elia Nora S. Hernandez, known affectionately as Elia Nora, passed away peacefully on February 20, 2025, in Edinburg, Texas, at the age of 82. Born on August 3, 1942, in Mexico, she was a beacon of love and kindness, whose spirited nature touched the lives of all who knew her.
Elia Nora was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Jose Uriel Hernandez; her parents, Fernando Sanchez and Edith Imelda Sanchez; and her brother, Xavier Guillermo Sanchez.
She leaves behind a legacy of love and cherished memories with her family, including her children Elsa Mireya Sanchez, Jose Uriel Hernandez Jr., and Maria Edith Hernandez; her son-in-law Arnold Sanchez; her daughter-in-law Noni Roberson; her siblings Martha Sanchez Estrada, Rosa Maria (Juan) Sanchez, Minerva Sanchez, Sergio Fernando(Irene) Sanchez, Jose Luis (Olga) Sanchez, Jorge Rodolfo(Bertha) Sanchez and + Xavier Guillermo (Rosario) Sanchez as well as numerous nieces and nephews who will miss her dearly.
Elia Nora's life was a tapestry of joy woven with her passions and interests. She was a wonderful cook, known for her open-door policy at mealtimes, always ensuring there was room for one more guest at her table. Her love for reading, knitting, and gardening provided her with endless hours of pleasure and a way to share her creativity with others.
Music was a vital part of Elia Nora's life, and she found solace and joy in the melodies of Boleros. Her favorite artists included Amalia Mendoza, Lucha Villa, Lola Beltran, Los Dandys, Los Panchos, Vicente Fernandez, Juan Gabriel, and Rocio Durcal. She also had a special place in her heart for the vibrant beats of Daddy Yankee, showcasing her eclectic taste and appreciation for various musical genres.
Elia Nora was an avid sports fan, with a particular fondness for wrestling. Her favorite wrestler, Jon Cena, brought excitement and entertainment into her life, while her love for la Lucha Libre connected her to her cultural roots. She also enjoyed cheering on her favorite baseball team, the Texas Rangers, celebrating each victory with enthusiasm.
Those who knew Elia Nora will remember her as a loving and kind soul, whose spirited demeanor was contagious. Her warmth and generosity knew no bounds, and her presence was a comforting embrace to family and friends.
