Edinburg, Texas - Betty Nell Mason Evins, a beacon of love and wisdom, passed away peacefully on September 19, 2024, in Edinburg, Texas. Born on January 21, 1931, in Madisonville, Texas, Betty's life was a testament to her faith, intelligence, and unwavering dedication to her family and students.
Betty's early years in Madisonville laid the foundation for a life of service and education. After graduating from Texas Women's University with an all-level certification in Education, she embarked on a remarkable teaching career that spanned grades 1 through 12 in various school districts across Texas, Tennessee, and New Mexico. Her passion for teaching and her ability to inspire her students left an indelible mark on countless lives.
A devout member of the First Christian Church, Betty's faith was the cornerstone of her existence. She lived her beliefs through her actions, demonstrating compassion and generosity to all who knew her. Her loving spirit was a source of comfort and strength to her family, friends, and community.
Betty was the cherished matriarch of a family that adored her. Though she was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Richard Sam Evins, her youngest son, Paul Morris Evins, and her grandson, Mason Evins, her legacy will continue through her surviving family. She will be lovingly remembered by her son, John Franklin Evins, her daughter, Mary Karen Evins Townsend, her granddaughters, Julia and Sonya, and her six great-grandchildren.
Betty's life was a tapestry of meaningful relationships and treasured moments. Her intelligence was matched only by her capacity to love and her commitment to her faith. Those who had the privilege of knowing her were touched by her kindness and her unwavering support.

Inurnment will be at 10 a.m. on Tuesday, September 24, 2024 at Hillcrest Memorial Park in Edinburg. Her family extends heartfelt thanks to DHR Hospice for their compassionate care and to Rivera at Hillcrest Funerals and Cremations for their dignified services.
Betty's journey on earth may have concluded, but the love she shared and the wisdom she imparted will endure forever. Her memory will be a guiding light to all who were blessed to know her, a reminder of the beauty and grace that can be found in a life lived with purpose and love.
