Bertha Gonzalez


Bertha Gonzalez, born on March 26, 1942, in Reynosa, Tamps, MX, passed away peacefully on July 1, 2026, at the age of 84. She departed this life from natural causes, leaving behind a legacy of love, faith, and devotion that will be cherished by all who knew her.

Bertha was a proud Christian woman whose life was grounded in faith and guided by a deep sense of compassion. She carried herself with grace and strength, and she touched the lives of many through her kindness, generosity, and unwavering love for her family. Those who were blessed to know her will remember her as a loving, courageous, and generous woman who faced life with dignity and a warm heart.

Music, dancing, and bingo were among the simple joys that brought Bertha happiness, but nothing meant more to her than time spent with her family, friends, and beloved grandkids. She especially cherished the laughter, stories, and togetherness that filled family gatherings. Her home and her heart were always open, and her presence brought comfort, joy, and a sense of belonging to those around her.

Bertha is survived by her children, Mary Lou Botello, Mary Ellen Buenrostro , Rose Mary Vazquez, and Robert Botello Jr. and( Christina ). She also leaves behind a loving family of grandchildren, including Albert, Michelle, and Adrian Buenrostro; Robert Joseph, Melissa, Joshua, and Brian Botello; John Manuel, Ashley, and Brandon Vazquez; Brittany and Breana Botello. She was blessed with 12 great-grandchildren, as well as numerous nieces and nephews who will carry forward her memory with love and gratitude.

She is also survived by her sister, Aida M. Flores, and her sisters-in-law, Dolores Sanchez, Beatriz Gonzalez, Amelia Gonzalez, Abeldia Monrroy, and Teresa Molina. Bertha was preceded in death by her loved ones: Elias and Catarina Gonzalez, Roberto Botello, Guadalupe, Jose M., Elvia, Roberto, Ernesto, Victoriano, and Ricardo Gonzalez . Their memories remained close to her heart throughout her life, and she held her family bonds with great devotion.

Bertha’s life was enriched by the enduring relationships she built and the example she set for those around her. She was a woman who gave freely of herself, offered encouragement without hesitation, and found joy in the success and happiness of others. Her courage was evident in the way she lived, her generosity was reflected in the way she loved, and her tenderness was felt by everyone fortunate enough to be embraced by her spirit.

As the well-known author Helen Keller once wrote, “What we have once enjoyed we can never lose. All that we love deeply becomes a part of us.” Bertha Gonzalez will remain a treasured part of the hearts and lives of her family and friends, whose memories of her will continue to bring comfort, strength, and gratitude.

Her legacy will live on through the generations she helped shape, the values she instilled, and the love she shared so freely. Though she will be deeply missed, her family takes comfort in knowing that her life was a beautiful reflection of faith, devotion, and unconditional love. Bertha Gonzalez will be remembered always with love, respect, and admiration.

A gathering of family and friends will be Wednesday, July 08, 2026 at Rivera Hillcrest Funeral Home,1300 N. I-69 C Frontage Rd Edinburg from 8:30 am to 1:00 pm. A celebration of Life service will be at 12 noon at the Funeral Home followed by burial at 1:30 pm at La Piedad Cemetery in McAllen.
