Alfredo Cruz Cantu, a man of spirited nature and faith-filled heart, passed away peacefully on November 13, 2025, at the age of 83, in his hometown of Edinburg, Texas. Born on February 3, 1942, in the same vibrant community, Alfredo's life was a testament to his unwavering love for his family, his passion for music, and his dedication to praising the Lord.
Alfredo was a loving husband to his wife, Mary Elia Cantu. Their marriage, which began on June 5, 1965, was filled with mutual respect, deep affection, and an enduring partnership that stood as a pillar of strength for their family. Together, they raised a beautiful family, including their children Rene Cantu, Dorina A. (Jaime) Moya, Belen Cantu, and Sergio Lee (Dilia Saenz) Cantu. Alfredo's legacy continued to flourish through his cherished grandchildren Jonathan Cantu, Alex Moya, Ketzia N. Cantu, Savanah Gonzalez, and Katya M. Cantu, as well as numerous great-grandchildren who will carry forward his memory with love and pride.
Alfredo is also survived by siblings Odilia Ruiz, San Juanita Guajardo, Manuel Cantu, Jr., Ernesto Cantu, Esperanza Banda, and David Cantu. His life was shaped by the values instilled in him by his late parents, Manuel Cantu and San Juanita Cantu. He was also preceded in death by his dear son Noel Cantu, his grandson Joshua Noel Cantu, and his siblings Alfonso Cantu, Aniseto Cantu, and Agripina Escobedo, who had gone before him to pave the way to eternity.
A man of many interests, Alfredo's love for singing and playing his guitar was known to all. His voice and melodies were the soul of family gatherings, where his presence brought joy and unity. Alfredo's love for spending time at the ranch was matched only by his devotion to praising the Lord with his singing and guitar playing. His faith was a cornerstone of his existence, and he lived it out with every strum of his guitar and every note he sang.
He approached life with a sense of purpose and a commitment to his beliefs that inspired all who had the privilege of knowing him.
As we bid farewell to Alfredo Cruz Cantu, we celebrate a life lived with passion, a spirit unbroken, and a heart that loved without limits. His memory will be cherished and kept alive in the stories told, the songs sung, and the love he left behind. Though he has departed from this world, his spirit will continue to resonate in the lives of those he touched. Rest in peace, Alfredo, and may your song of life be heard in the heavens as sweetly as it was here on earth.
2 Timothy 4:7-8
I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, and I have remained faithful. And now the prize awaits me—the crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous Judge, will give me on the day of his return. And the prize is not just for me but for all who eagerly look forward to his appearing.
