Adolfo Cubriel, affectionately known as "Big Dog" and "Coach" to his friends, family, and the many lives he touched, passed away on November 29, 2025, after a valiant battle with cancer. Born on January 12, 1967, in Kerrville, Texas, Adolfo's zest for life and his infectious spirit were evident from his earliest days. He departed this world in McAllen, Texas, surrounded by the love of his family and the many memories he created throughout his 58 years.
Adolfo's life was marked by his enduring love for his family. He is survived by his devoted wife, Mary Sanchez, and their children: Jonathan, Erik, Anissa, Aleena, and Abrianna Cubriel. His legacy is also carried on by his parents, Adolfo and Rosa Cubriel, and his siblings, Rachel and Peticia. Each family member was a source of immense pride and joy for Adolfo, and he was a constant presence in their lives, offering guidance, laughter, and unwavering support.
Professionally, Adolfo was a respected figure in the golfing community. As a Golf Pro at Monte Cristo Golf and Country Club for over 25 years, he shared his passion for the sport with countless individuals. His remarkable talent was showcased when he won the Pinnacle long drive competition in Houston, Texas, in 2002, and his skill was further immortalized by the course record of 61 he set at Monte Cristo. Adolfo's commitment to golf extended beyond his personal achievements; he dedicated over 40 years to the golf industry, enriching the lives of both young and old with his invaluable lessons and mentorship.
Beyond his professional accomplishments, Adolfo was an ardent sports fan. He cheered on the Texas A&M Aggies, the San Antonio Spurs, and maintained a love/hate relationship with the Dallas Cowboys. His enthusiasm for sports was only matched by his love for BBQ'ing, where he found great pleasure in the simple joy of grilling and the camaraderie that came with it.
Those who knew Adolfo will remember him as a man of many virtues. He was funny, often the source of laughter and lightness in any room. His selflessness was evident in the way he prioritized others' needs above his own. And his passion — for his family, his work, and his interests — was the driving force behind his remarkable life.
Adolfo Cubriel lived a life that was full, vibrant, and impactful. While his absence leaves a void that cannot be filled, the memories he created, the lessons he imparted, and the love he shared will continue to resonate with all who were fortunate enough to know him. As we bid farewell to "Big Dog," we do so with gratitude for the time we had and the legacy he leaves behind — a legacy that will be cherished and celebrated for generations to come.
